Gambhir talks to press about his role as Indian Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir took over as Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team on 22nd July. He conducted a press conference along with chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. They both addressed the queries about recent team selection for Sri Lanka series. India will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against SL from 27th July till 7th August.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been specially asked to be available for the ODIs by selection committee. Gambhir stated that he wanted them to be ready for Champions Trophy 2025. He also opined that they can continue till CWC 2027, if they wish in ODIs. They both have already retired from T20Is after recently winning World Cup.

Ajit Agarkar answered questions about Ruturaj Gaikwad being excluded and he stated that they can only select 15 members, someone will miss. Gambhir opined that Shubman Gill is all format player and has been appointed Vice Captain. About Mohammad Shami, both of them stated that he might play Bangladesh series, if he is fit.

Ajit Agarkar explained that they rested Ravindra Jadeja for Tests and hence, did not select him for ODIs. Gambhir stated that it’s his and staff’s responsibility to keep dressing room happy and secure. He also stated that he and Virat have a good relationship. Well, social media people are unhappy with Gill being selected over Ruturaj. Let’s see how he will perform in Sri Lanka.
