Supreme Court issues notices to Delhi Police in Women Wrestlers plea!

The plea will come to hearing on Friday, 28th of April. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud headed the Supreme Court bench that took the plea. He observed that Women Wrestlers have leveled grave allegations on WFI chief. He wondered about no action taken by Delhi Police on the matter.

Supreme Court has issued notices to Delhi Police on 25th April. Indian Women Wrestlers have been protesting against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. They have been asking Delhi Police to file FIR against WFI chief. On 24th April, they moved to Supreme Court asking for them interfere in the issue. Women Wrestlers have been supported by Men Wrestlers too. Still, no action has been taken on him. Supreme Court hence issued notices to Delhi Police to reply on Women Wrestlers plea.

So, Supreme Court has asked for a detailed plea and asked for redaction of names in the original judicial records.

Union Ministry Youth Affairs and Sports announced an oversight committee to probe into the allegations. But the wrestlers have again commenced their protest at Delhi Jantar Mantar. They have invited political parties also to support this time unlike the last one. Supreme Court has asked the complaints to be resealed and attached to the petition.

Kapil Sibal, representing Women Wrestlers has asked for hearing on priority of the plea. Supreme Court has decided to continue hearing on 28th April. Brij Bhushan is said to be very influential leader and the allegtions of sexual misconduct have been levelled against him. Wrestlers are asking for Brij Bhushan to be removed and WFI to be disbanded.
