Sri Lanka Women have pulled off an impossible win against Pakistan Women in the second semi-final of Women’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Sri Lanka Women stood third in the table after losing to Pakistan in their last group match unable to defend the target of 112 runs. Ironically, Sri Lanka Women won the more important Semi Final game by defending 122 runs target by one run in the last ball of the match.
Pakistan Women team have been left stunned by Sri Lanka Women team’s courage and belief. Pakistan tried to finish the match at 18 from 18 in a more cautious way and they lost Bismah Maroof (42), who was guiding them to an easy victory along with Nida Dar in the 2nd ball of 18th over. Pakistan required only 16 to win from 16 balls even after losing her. Nida Dar, Ayesha Naseem, Aliya Riaz couldn’t finish the game even thought Sri Lanka Women got penalised for slow over rate in the final over.
Kulasuriya’s final over for Sri Lanka Women can be described as dream come true for any death bowler as she did not let Nida Dar connect properly. Even though last ball was a full toss, Nida Dar failed to dispatch it and got run out trying to finish a second to push the match into Super Over. Sri Lanka Women entered finals for the first time after 14 years.
Well, Sri Lanka Men’s team won the Asia Cup in UAE against all odds and India Women should be aware of this fact, even though they are more dominant. Inoka Ranaweera has been declared as Player of the Match for her 2/17 figures from 4 overs with one maiden over. Nashra Sandhu for Pakistan Women took 3/17 in 4 overs. Women’s Asia Cup finals are going to held on 15th October, in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
