Indian Women played their first ODI against England Women as part of their tour of England post T20Is. Smriti Mandhana scored 91 in the successful chase. IND-W will play three ODIs in the series and first one has been conducted on 18th September.
Indian senior bowler Jhulan Goswami, who is going to retire post this series, has bowled her best spell in the series. She gave away just 20 runs in her 10 overs with 2 maiden overs and took one wicket. Due to her tight spell, England batters failed to score freely and they posted just 227/7 in their 50 overs.
Danni Wyatt scored 43 runs and Alice-Davidson Richards scored 50 runs. Sophie Ecclestone (31) and Charlie Dean (24) finished the innings well to post that score. Indian batters started the chase with Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia batting with aggression mixed with caution after Shafali Varma got out for just 1 run.
Yastika Bhatia scored 50 runs off 47 balls during her partnership off 96 runs with Smriti. Next Batter Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave great support to opener Smriti Mandhana with a partnership of 99 runs. Mandhana scored 91 runs off 99 balls. She got out trying to score faster at 198 runs on the scoreboard.
Harmanpreet Kaur finished the chase in 44.2 overs by scoring 232/3. Smriti got Player of the Match award. Kate Cross for England took 2 wickets by giving away 43 runs in 10 overs. Other bowlers did not support her.
Indian bowlers Meghna Singh, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Deepti Sharma bowled tight lines supporting Jhulan Goswami. Second ODI will be played on 21st September. Indian Women in the ICC Women’s Championship won all 4 ODIs they have played at the start of the championship. IND-W have topped the Table for Championships.
