India started their all-important Test series against Bangladesh for World Test Championship. The first of the two Tests has started at Chattogram and the pitch is highly spin-friendly. India went into the Test with Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravichander Ashwin as lead spinners along with Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj as pace bowlers. As Rohit Sharma got injured in ODIs, KL Rahul has been named as Captain of India Test Team against Bangladesh.

India won the toss and elected to bat first. KL Rahul has decided to open the innings with Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer is playing in the middle-order. Shubman Gill (20) got out trying to paddle sweep against Taijul Islam. KL Rahul (22) chopped on against Khaled Ahmed ball with low bounce. Virat Kohli (1) failed and got out to Taijul Islam trying to play him on backfoot. He took DRS but the ball looked pretty straight. At this moment, India scored 48/3. Rishabh Pant (46) joined Cheteswar Pujara and quickly put on 64-run partnership.

Now, at 112/4, Cheteswar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer came together. They have both put on 149-run stand saving India from embarrassment. Cheteswar Pujara scored 90 runs and missed out on a well deserved century as Taijul Islam bowled him out. To the last ball of the day, India lost Axar Patel (14) to Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Khaled Ahmed (1/26), Taijul Islam (3/84) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/71) for Bangladesh to restrict India for 278/6 in 90 overs on Day one. Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs off 169 balls and he is the only hope for India to put up above 300 or 325 runs on board against a tricky pitch that assists spinners from first day.
