Saurashtra have toppled Bengal at Eden Gardens, to win their second Ranji Trophy Title. Three years ago in 2019-2020 series, they won against Bengal to register their first victory. Jaydev Unadkat has decided to join his Ranji side, Saurashtra as captain and India team let him do so. He strategised well to keep Bengal batsmen under control. He even took 9 wickets in the match for Saurashtra to end up as Player of the match.
Bengal tried to make comeback after conceding first innings big lead in second innings at 194/4. They lost Shahbaz Ahmed (27) for a freaky run-out at Non-Striker end in Jaydev Unadkat bowling. This turned match into Saurashtra hands. In no time, Unadkat dismissed Manoj Tiwary (68), Akash Ghatak (4), Akash Deep (1) to reduce them to 205/9. Last wicket partnership pushed Bengal past the deficit but Unadkat removed hard-hitting Ishan Porel (22) to give his team Saurashtra just 12 runs to chase and win the title. Saurashtra chased it with 9 wickets remaining in 2.1 overs.
Jaydev Unadkat took 6/85 in the second innings and 3/44 in the first innings. Hence, he has been adjudged as Player of the Match. Arpit Vasavada of Saurashtra scored 904 runs in the season and he has been adjused as Player of the Series. Well, Captain of Saurashtra, Jaydev Unadkat, is elated with this result and he stated that his team has put in all the efforts to reap in these rewards. Congrats Saurashtra for being Ranji Trophy 2022-23 champions.
