Sanju Samson clarifies on Devdutt Padikkal issue!

Devdutt Padikkal has been facing trolls and criticism for his performance. He failed in Punjab Kings and SRH matches in IPL 2023. Being a specialized opener, it would be hard for him to adjust to middle-order. RR management and Sanju Samson have agreed that they did not find boundaries in middle overs.

Sanju Samson, RR Captain, talking to press clarified about Devdutt Padikkal issue. He stated that team management wanted a left-hand batter in middle overs. Also, Jos Buttler got injured while taking an outfield catch. Sanju Samson stated that Jos Buttler needed to get some stitches and he wasn’t available to open. Hence, RR Management debated about Devdutt Padikkal opening instead. Sanju Samson revealed that they have finally decided to send Ashwin as opener.

This will give them a chance to have a left-hand batter in the middle. As the opposition had a left-arm spinner and a leg spinner. Sanju Samson stated that they wanted a left-hand batter to take on them, in the middle overs. Devdutt Padikkal batted for 26 balls and scored only 21 runs. He couldn’t score freely. He did well for RCB as an opener and even scored a century. Sanju Samson and RR management wants him to fit into middle-order position at no.4.
