RR made a strong statement in their first match against SRH in IPL 2023. They won with a huge margin. RR had to chase a massive total against Punjab Kings in their second match. But they failed in Guwahati in a nail-baiting thriller. Punjab Kings scored 197/4 in 20 overs and RR managed only 192/7. Shikhar Dhawan played a captain innings for Punjab Kings by scoring 86 runs in 56 balls.
Prabhsimran Singh scored 60 runs off 34 balls and gave Punjab Kings a great start. Shikhar Dhawan carried his bat through the innings. Jitesh Sharma (27) contributed to the score and hence, they reached 197/4 against RR. Jason Holder (2/29), Ravichandran Ashwin (1/25) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/50) did well for RR in taking wickets. Punjab Kings found a great hitter in Prabhsimran Singh.
RR interestingly sent Ravichandran Ashwin as opener. He returned without scoring. Yashasvi Jaiswal (11) and Jos Buttler (19) could not stay for long too. Sanju Samson scored 42 off 25 balls and gave momentum to RR innings. Devdutt Padikkal took 26 balls to score 21 and killed all the momentum. Riyan Parag surprisingly scored 20 off 12 balls.
Shimron Hetmyer with 36 off 18 balls and Dhruv Jurel with 32 off 15 balls brought RR back in the game. Dhruv Jurel came in as impact sub for Yuzvendra Chahal. He proved to be a great end of the innings hitter. He impressed everyone with his onslaught against spinners. RR came close to the target and lost by 5 runs. This is the much deserved thriller for this IPL 2023 season.
