RCB are maintaining 50-50 ratio this IPL 2023. They lost 2 matches at home and won 2. They lost at Eden Gardens against KKR and won one against Punjab Kings at Mohali. Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to field first against RCB. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis played till 17th over, still RCB managed only 174/4 in 20 overs. Due to injury for Faf du Plessis, while he batted, Virat Kohli has been nominated as Captain of RCB.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis went after bowlers in the powerplay. But in the middle overs they found it tough to accelerate. Virat Kohli scored slowly after the powerplay. He scored 59 runs off 47 balls and got out trying to accelerate in the 17th over. RCB looked set for scoring above 190-200 with 137 runs, first wicket partnership. Faf du Plessis kept scoring at his own pace. He scored 84 runs off 56 balls. RCB did not find any other batsmen getting going. Harpreet Brar(2/31), Nathan Ellis(1/41), Arshdeep Singh(1/34) took wickets for Punjab Kings. Harpreet Brar dismissed Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell back to back and threatened to take a hattrick.
RCB bowlers did not allow Punjab Kings to never settle down. Mohammed Siraj mainly took important wickets breaking the back of Punjab Kings. Siraj in the last over when Jitesh Sharma looked like taking the match away from RCB, he took 2 wickets to slow him down. Prabhsimran Singh scored 46 runs off 30 balls. And Jitesh Sharma scored 41 off 27 balls. Both these young guns took Punjab Kings to 150 runs as they looked not even making 120 at one point.
Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets by just giving away 21 runs. He has been awarded Player of the Match for his performance. He stated that before lockdown batters used to hit him easily. He worked hard on his bowling and his fitness to become a better bowler for RCB and India. Virat Kohli, as captain, said that he told his team to hold their heads high and take wickets. RCB won the match by 24 runs and ended up at 5th Place in the Table.
