Punjab Kings did not have their captain and best batter, Shikhar Dhawan in their match against LSG. Still, they have managed to win in a close encounter. Punjab Kings found heroes in Sikandar Raza and M Shahrukh Khan to give them this win. LSG captain KL Rahul did well with bat but lost one or two tricks as captain with ball. Punjab Kings won the match in last over with 2 wickets.
LSG had KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers opening. But they did not get a big and fast scoring opening partnership as they anticipated in the powerplay. Kyle Mayers(29) and Deepak Hooda(2), Krunal Pandya(18) did not get going while KL Rahul started too slow. Punjab Kings did not allow LSG to play aggressively as well. Nicholas Pooran(0) and Marcus Stoinis(15) failed to give them any momentum. KL Rahul scored 74 off 56 balls and LSG scored 159/8 in 20 overs. Sam Curran(3/31), Kagiso Rabada(2/34), Arshdeep Singh(1/22), Harpreet Brar(1/10), Sikandar Raza(1/19) did well for Punjab Kings in bowling.
Punjab Kings did not start well Atharva Taide(0) and Prabhsimran Singh(4) got out early. Matthew Short scored 34 runs off 22 balls to give some momentum to their innings. Harpreet Singh(22) struggled and Sam Curran(6) failed. Sikandar Raza after initital struggle found momentum in the Krunal Pandya over. He scored 57 off 41 balls and almost took Punjab Kings home. M Shahrukh Khan scored 23 runs off 10 balls to finish a memorable victory for his team in IPL 2023.
KL Rahul introduced Ravi Bishnoi in 15th over and made him bowl the last over too. This did not help LSG cause one bit. Sikandar Raza did not seem too comfortable against him and match could have turned into LSG favor had he bowled earlier. Yudhvir Singh(2/19), Mark Wood(2/35), Krishnappa Gowtham(1/31), Krunal Pandya(1/32) and Ravi Bishnoi(2/18) did not let Punjab Kings score freely. Still, Punjab Kings found a way to win as LSG lost their track in middle overs when Raza went after Krunal Pandya.
