MI started off IPL 2023, with continuous losses. They did not have Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer playing. Suryakumar Yadav did not appear in any good form for MI. So, the start of the season, they seemed to be a team that will end at 8th or 9th place like 2022 season. But MI have turned it around to win 8 matches on batting strength.
MI won the toss and elected to field against SRH. Unlike previous matches, SRH found good opening partnership with new pair Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal coming good. They both have put on 140 runs for the first wicket in 13.5 overs. Vivrant Sharma scored his maiden IPL fifty, 69 off 47 balls. Mayank Agarwal came good after 13 matches with 83 runs off 46 balls. He missed out a century. MI restricted other batters with Akash Madhwal getting 4/37 in 4 overs. SRH managed to score 200/5 in 20 overs.
MI needed to chase in 11.5 overs to not give RCB and RR, a chance to qualify. But for MI winning the match became important as Ishan Kishan(14) got out early. Rohit Sharma struggled initially but managed to score 56 runs off 37 balls. Cameron Green launched into SRH bowling and scored 100 off 47 balls. Suryakumar Yadav assisted him with 25 off 16 and finished a memorable win for MI at Wankhede chasing. MI scored 201/2 in 18 overs to end up with 16 points.
