Australia has decided to bat first in their Day and Night Test against West Indies. They ended the first day by scoring 330/3. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne continued Australia innings on the second day after scoring hundreds on the first day. After putting on 297 runs with Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne (163) got out at 428/4. Travis Head (175) also shortly got out at 442/5. Alex Carey quickly scored 41 runs to help Australia post 511/7 in the first innings against West Indies.
In reply, Tagenarine Chanderpaul opened innings alongside captain Kraigg Brathwaite for West Indies. Michael Neser sent back Kraigg Brathwaite (19) and Shamarh Brooks (8). Nathan Lyon sent back Jermaine Blackwood (3) and like his father Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Tagenarine Chanderpaul found himself in the repair work. Devon Thomas (19) kept Tagenarine Chanderpaul in company for a 40-run partnership. Cameron Green got him in his 3 expensive overs. West Indies need the youngster to play like his father, to avoid following on, in this Test.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul is known for being solid at his hand, refusing to get out even if he ran out of partners. Even in a depleted West Indies team Shivnarine Chanderpaul managed to score 30 centuries, 66 50’s in 164 Test Matches and 280 innings. He scored 11,867 runs with 51.37 average and has retired as one of Modern Day Test Greats of Cricket. 26 year old Tagenarine Chanderpaul now needs to take inspiration from his father for West Indies to even give a fight in this Test Match.
