Jasprit Bumrah has been absent from cricketing action over an year. He had to undergo a surgery in New Zealand for his long back injury. Bumrah has been at NCA in Bengaluru for few months to get back into shape and play Internationally. VVS Laxman led staff at NCA have given BCCI their approval to select him. Bumrah is going to captain India T20I side against Ireland.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will be vice-captain for this side. Bumrah is not part of Asian Games T20I side while Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain India, in the competition. Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube have been picked in the side. None of the seniors have been included as they will be prepping for Asia Cup to start late, 30th August. Bumrah has expressed his readiness to captain the team and hence, he got the chance.

BCCI will monitor his performance. They will then think about his selection for CWC 2023. Bumrah wants to first start with T20Is and improve his match readiness before he joins ODI squad. Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan also get a chance to play. Prasidh Krishna has been in rehabilitation and he will be looked closely, too. India has enough players to play in multiple tournaments with different sides. Looks like they are trying it out. Most importantly, Bumrah will be match fit before all-important CWC 2023 and that’s a great news.
