Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India, in their regular style. Shubman Gill looked circumspect and hit 19 runs off 25 balls. Young spinner got Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to push India on the back foot.

Ishan Kishan scored 33 runs off 61 balls and KL Rahul scored 39 runs off 44 balls. They have put on 63 runs partnership against in form spinners. Charith Asalanka also joined the Dunith Wellalage and Indian batsmen failed to score freely against them on a mine-field type pitch. India lost 9 wickets 186 as rain came down. After a short interruption, the match progressed. Axar Patel with 26 managed push India score above 200.
