FIFA World Cup 2022 Knockouts had Morocco upset Spain. Knockouts did not have many surprises after Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia and Brazil lost to Cameroon. Morocco played with their simple defense plans against attacking and dominating Spain. One can say that it is Spain fault for not being able to convert the opportunities given by Morocco and being either over-attacking or more defensive towards the end. Morocco players could challenge Spain goalkeeper and hit 3 on target in the penalty shootout, to complete a heist kind of a win against mighty Spain.
Morocco took 6 shots at goal with 2 on target. They had very low 23% ball possession, made 305 passes with 70% accuracy. Morocco made 15 fouls, got 1 Yellow Card, and 5 Offsides. Spain took 13 shots at goal with one on target. They had 77% ball possession, made 1019 passes with 90% accuracy. Spain made 14 fouls, got 1 Yellow Card, 4 Offsides and 8 Corners. Spain could not really breach defenses of Morocco, even though dominated the opponents. Morocco scored in the penalty shootout with 3-0 to win at Education City Stadium, Qatar.
Morocco used the opportunity provided by Spain in penalty shootout and they did not look convincing enough to win the game. But this major win has resulted in them entering Quarter-Finals with a massive win and big upset. They will face Portugal whose is in thundering form in their Quarter-Final match on 10th December. Cristiano Ronaldo might definitely be part of that game and we would like to see how he will proceed after such a huge win.
