DC has been failing to make any impression in IPL 2023. After losing 5 back-to-back matches, they came back with 3 wins in 4 matches. DC shocked GT in a low scoring thriller. After Mohammad Shami broke the back of the innings, Aman Khan scored his maiden fifty. He helped DC score 130/8 in 20 overs. They won the match by 5 runs in the last over.
DC won the toss and elected to bat first. On the batting pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat, Mohammad Shami took 4 wickets for 11 runs, in his 4 overs. He broke the back of DC batting line-up. Axar Patel tried to salvage the situation and scored 27 runs off 30 balls. Aman Hakim Khan scored 51 runs off 44 balls, his maiden fifty and helped DC to reach 130/8. Ripal Patel scored 23 runs off 13 balls to help the team. Mohit Sharma(2/33) and Rashid Khan(1/28) helped Mohammad Shami and GT in controlling the innings.
With an easy total to chase, GT looked like favorites. Wriddhiman Saha(0), Shubman Gill(6), Vijay Shankar(6), David Miller(0) failed collectively for the first time for GT. Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar tried to build a partnership and played defensively. Abhinav Manohar scored 26 runs off 33 balls but got out in 18th over trying to force scoring. Rahul Tewatia with 3 back-to-back sixes in 19th over against Anrich Nortje, looked like shocking DC. At the time, GT needed to score 37 runs from 12 balls to win. Ishant Sharma needed to defend 12 runs in the last over. He did and DC won a memorable victory. GT managed to score only 125/6 in 20 overs.
Khaleel Ahmed(2/24), Ishant Sharma(2/23), Kuldeep Yadav(1/15) restricted GT batsmen from scoring freely. Anrich Nortje(1/39) in his last over gave away 3 sixes but till them bowled well. DC found courageous bowlers who again defended a low score like against SRH. Hardik Pandya scored 59 from 53 balls but failed to finish for GT. And he took entire blame on him. Mohammad Shami for breaking back of DC with 4/11, got Player of the Match award.
