New Zealand have been at the top of the table with 4 consecutive wins in CWC 2023. But they could not give a fight to South Africa. India won against them after a good fight. They managed to almost chase off 389 runs against Australia. But South Africa did not let them even have a respectable score on board to improve their NRR.
South Africa got what they wanted and batted first. They scored massive 357/4 in 50 overs. Quinton de Kock(114) and Rassie van der Dussen(133) helped them to put up such a huge score. In the chase, New Zealand found themselves behind the ball as they lost early wickets.
Devon Conway(2), Rachin Ravindra(9) failed. Will Young(33) and Daryl Mitchell(24) tried their best to weather the storm. Glenn Phillips came good for them with 60 runs from 50 balls. New Zealand got bowled out for 167 runs in 35.3 overs.
Keshav Maharaj(4/46), Marco Jansen(3/31), Gerald Coetzee(2/41) and Kagiso Rabada(1/16) got wickets for SA. With this win, South Africa have confirmed their qualification of Semi-Finals and they could be looking at first or second position finish. Their game against India on 5th November, will be the key for confirming the standings.
