Australia has a tradition to play on Boxing Day, that is, 26th December, every year at MCG, Melbourne and then New Years’ Eve Test at SCG, Sydney. This year, they are playing South Africa at MCG on boxing day. David Warner is playing his 100th Test match for Australia. South Africa lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Sarel Erwee and Dean Elgar opened innings for South Africa and they have put on 29 runs in 10 overs.
Sarel Erwee (18) got out to Scott Boland and Theunis de Bruyn (12) fell as first scalp of Cameron Green for the day after putting 27 runs partnership with Dean Elgar. Mitchell Starc got Temba Bavuma (1) after Dean Elgar got run-out for 26 (68). Khaya Zondo (5) got out to Mitchell Starc reducing South Africa to 67/5. Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen came together for South Africa and put on 112-run partnership.
Kyle Verreynne (52) got out after aggressively taking on Australia bowlers at 179/6. Immediately, Marco Jansen (59) went after bowlers and got out to Cameron Green, just like Verreynne. Immediately, Cameron Green got Kagiso Rabada (4) chopping on. Keshav Maharaj (2) went for a nothing shot against Nathan Lyon and got out. Green came back and got his 5th wicket Lungi Ngidi (2). Green ended up with 5/27 and he got South Africa dancing to his tunes after a huge 100-run stand.
Mitchell Starc got 2/39 and Scott Boland got 1/34, Nathan Lyon got 1/53. South Africa bowlers wanted to get David Warner and put Australia on the back foot. Kagiso Rabada got Usman Khawaja, another senior batsman and opener for 1. David Warner took on all South Africa bowlers and scored 32 (51), while Marnus Labuschagne 5 (12) tried to survive the day. Cameron Green has rocked South Africa on Boxing Day.
