Asia Cup has been one of the prominent tournaments to crown the best of Asian Cricket Teams. Majorly, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh have been participating in the tournament. Now, in Asia Cup 2023 – Nepal and Afghanistan have been added to the list. India won the cup 7 times while Sri Lanka won it 6 times. Bangladesh have reached finals thrice in 2012, 2016 and 2018. First time, Pakistan has won the cup and rest both the times India won the Asia Cup.
India and Sri Lanka have been major opponents in the Asia Cup tournaments. Both have them have been finalists 10 and 12 times, respectively. Pakistan won it twice in 2000 and 2012 and 5 times they reached finals. In 15 editions, India remains the top team in Asia Cup tournaments to beat while Sri Lanka has emerged strong contender. This Asia Cup 2023 will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
BCCI refused to play in Pakistan while Pakistan got a chance to host for first time in 15 years. Hence, Pakistan and ACC – Asian Cricket Council, had to discuss the alternatives. PCB threatened to not play in CWC to be held in India. Pakistan Government intervened and they have arrived on a resolution. 9 matches will be held in Sri Lanka and 4 matches in Pakistan. Asia Cup 2023 will be played in 50-Over format as a dress rehearsal for CWC 2023. From 31st August – 17th September, the tournament will be held by ACC.
