Angelo Mathews has become the most reliable all-rounder for Sri Lanka. He became their most experienced player post the retirement of Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. The all-rounder has not been first choice for CWC 2023 team of Sri Lanka. Due to injuries to many, he has been called to join the squad. He provided a balance to the side.
Now, in their most important match against Bangladesh, he became first batter to get “Timed Out”. He came after the fall of Sadeera Samarawickrama and then before facing a ball, his helmet strap loosened up. Hence, he wanted a new helmet and before it could come, Bangladesh appealed for Timed Out. Umpires have asked if they want to continue with appeal.

Captain Sakib Al Hasan continued the appeal. Umpire Marais Erasmus has given Angelo Mathews out. Hence, he has become the first International Cricketer to go Timed Out. According to the law 40.1.1 and 40.1.2, Umpires can give a batter Timed out, if he doesn’t face a ball in 2-3 minutes, post the previous batter gets out or retires. Well, sportsman spirit of Bangladesh has come under huge scanner after this incident.
