Ajit Agarkar, the former high profile pacer and bowling all-rounder, has been appointed as Chief Selector by BCCI. After Chetan Sharma had to quit, he has been appointed after 4 month screening. SS Das has been working as interim-chief all these months. Ajit Agarkar has turned into a commentator post retirement from Ranji Cricket. He captained Mumbai team that won Ranji Trophy in 2013. Ajit Agarkar has strong opinions about young cricketers and team combination.
He became a bowling all-rounder after bursting onto the scene. Ajit Agarkar burst onto the scene as he could bowl at 90mph continuously. His accuracy and swinging abilities did come under question. He used to leak runs but take important wickets. Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra became more regular than him in International Cricket for India. But he has become trustworthy pacer while bowling at 90mph consistently. Ajit Agarkar became more ODI specialist than Tests.

But he has a Test Hundred at Lord’s against England. Ajit Agarkar debuted in 1998 and played for India till 2007. He represented India in 26 Tests and took 58 wickets. He played 191 ODIs and took 288 wickets. Interestingly, he has 6/41 best bowling figures in Tests and 6/42 best in ODIs. Ajit Agarkar has proved to be a good captain for Mumbai and has been respected as a commentator for his opinions. As Chief Selector, he is expected to be as friendly and good as MSK Prasad.
