Band Melam Movie Review

Rating : 2/5

Last year, the small film Court became a surprise hit, and the pair of Harsha Roshan and Sridevi gained good popularity among youth. For those who wanted to see this pair again, Band Melam, produced by writer Kona Venkat, released today on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.

Story:

The story is set in a village called Brahmanapalli in Telangana. Yadagiri (Harsha Roshan) and Raji (Sridevi) are cousins, and their families decide in childhood to get them married. Yadagiri is not interested in studies but loves music, while Raji is a topper in academics. Due to Yadagiri’s careless behavior, Raji gets upset, and they grow apart. Later, Raji moves to the city for higher studies.

Meanwhile, Yadagiri stays in the village and starts a music band with his friends, but falls into debt due to bad luck. At the same time, Raji’s father fixes her marriage with someone else. Did Yadagiri win back Raji? Why did Raji leave her wedding? Do they finally unite? That forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Kona Venkat, once known for strong comedy writing, brings a very old-style formula in this film. The story feels predictable and lacks freshness. Though the Telangana backdrop is used, it feels forced at times, especially in the dialect. The comedy scenes resemble typical “Jabardasth-style” humor, mixed with a routine love story and drama.

The first half focuses on character introduction and their love story, then shifts into comedy and drama. Some scenes, like stealing for a studio setup, feel illogical. The second half follows a predictable path with familiar twists, including the climax.

Performances:

Harsha Roshan fits well in his role and impresses with his Telangana slang and timing.
Sridevi looks good but needs improvement in emotional scenes.
Senior actors Goparaju Vijay and Sai Kumar perform well in their roles.
The hero’s friends provide some entertaining moments.

Technical Aspects:

Music by Vijay Bulganin is decent.
Background score feels too loud in some scenes.
Editing could have been sharper.
Production values are good, and the film looks visually rich.

Final Verdict:

“Band Melam” fails to create a strong impact.
It is a routine, outdated film with predictable storytelling and average entertainment.
