Supreme Court has decided to hear on emergency Delhi Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia plea. He has been arrested by CBI in Delhi Excise Policy case. Lawyer Abhishek Singhvi appeared in Supreme Court for Manish Sisodia. He claimed that when CBI did not attach his client’s name in the charge sheet, they cannot arrest him. Supreme Court declined to hear further arguments and dismissed it.
Justice DY Chandrachud heard the first argument and then took the decision. Supreme Court asked Manish Sisodia and his lawyers to go to Delhi High Court. It stated that they will always be ready to take up pleas but this one sets wrong precedent if they involve. Supreme Court stated that just because Manish Sisodia hails from Delhi, they cannot come to them bypassing protocol.
They have suggested them to challenge arrest in Delhi High Court and then come to them. Supreme Court decision did not surprise many law experts as they felt Manish Sisodia could have gone to High Court, straight away. CBI has asked for Manish Sisodia remand to complete a custodial interrogation. Delhi High Court has given them 5 days of remand. Well, Supreme Court declining the plea puts Manish Sisodia under more pressure! Manish Sisodia resigned to his Deputy CM post and Satyendra Jain resigned to his Minister post. Both are facing ED and CBI charges in Delhi Excise Policy and Money Laundering cases, respectively.
