Telugu cinema is getting its first-ever cartoonish comedy with Uppu Kappurambu, an original movie premiering on Prime Video on July 4. Starring Keerthy Suresh and Suhas in lead roles, the film is directed by Ani I V Sasi and produced by Radhika Lavu under Ellanar Films Pvt. Ltd.
Set in a fictional South Indian village in the 1990s, the movie is a quirky satire about a community facing a strange problem: running out of burial space. With humor, exaggeration, and cartoon-style storytelling, the makers say it’s a fun yet thought-provoking take on a serious issue.
Written by Vasanth Maringanti, affirmed about the script that, “We wanted it to be cartoonish. So that’s one important part of our narrative.” Uppu Kappurambu also features Babu Mohan, Shatru, and Talluri Rameshwari. It will stream in Telugu with dubs in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, reaching viewers in over 240 countries and territories.
The filmmakers say they wanted to try something new in Telugu—a cartoonish comedy that’s silly, yet meaningful. “It’s about how simple people deal with big problems in funny ways,” said director Ani I.V. Sasi.
With a strong cast and a fresh concept, Uppu Kappurambu promises laughter and heart, all in one unique story.
