Bengal Govt to Set Up Holding Centres for Illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas

The West Bengal government has cracked down on foreigners living illegally in West Bengal. Important orders have been issued to set up special ‘holding centres‘ to facilitate the deportation of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas who have been dumped in the state. The Government has issued written instructions and guidelines to all District Collectors (District Magistrates) of West Bengal regarding this crucial decision. It has been clarified that suitable places for the establishment of these holding centers should be immediately identified in their respective jurisdictions and further steps should be expedited. In particular, the mechanism has focused on the border districts and areas where illegal immigrants take shelter.

Security is there till deportation
The government says the main purpose of these holding centers is to keep a strict vigil on illegal immigrants caught in the state. He said that illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas caught in different parts of the state will be shifted to these special centers instead of being sent directly to jail. It has been revealed that the said foreigners will be kept in these holding centers until the identification process is completed and the necessary documentation for their legal repatriation is completed.

Govt towards implementation of election promise
The BJP has made this issue a major agenda item in the recent Bengal Assembly election campaign. He assured the people before the election that illegal immigration will be completely stopped in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in the campaign meetings of that day, he made it clear that the same way we stopped infiltration in Assam, we will stop illegal immigration in Bengal in the same way. Now in the background of the BJP government in Bengal, this sensational decision has been taken to implement the election promise.
