After the formation of the BJP government in West Bengal, the bulldozing of illegal structures intensified. Four Trinamool Congress party offices were demolished in Barnpur. This action was taken in the presence of local administration and cell officials. Trinamool Congress described it as targeted politics. After the devolution of power in West Bengal and the formation of a BJP government headed by Suvendu, the bulldozing of illegal constructions across the state has been steadily increasing. In this sequence, another Trinamool Congress office was demolished with bulldozers in Burnpur area of Asansol in West Bardhaman district.
On Saturday, TMC councilor Ashok Rudra demolished the party office near Burnpur railway station. It is reported that this office has been built on the land of SAIL-ISP (Indian Iron and Steel Company). A heavy police force was deployed during the operation in the presence of local administration and SAIL officials. This is the fourth TMC party office to be bulldozed in Burnpur area in recent days.
TMC accused of ‘target politics‘
The Trinamool Congress accused the BJP government of doing ‘target politics’ on this move. TMC leaders say that the offices of the opposition parties are being selectively targeted. However, the SAIL management has denied these allegations. Officials say that despite issuing several notices to the concerned persons in the past, the illegal encroachments have not been removed. As a result, the bulldozer had to spring into action.
SAIL officials said that the program of removal of illegal encroachments has now been intensified with the support of the administrative machinery and it will continue. They claimed that no specific section was targeted and all illegal encroachments for development projects would be removed. Earlier on Tuesday, the Trinamool Youth Congress party office at Triveni More in Burnpur was also demolished with bulldozers. The management of IISCO alleged that the party office was constructed illegally on their land and a notice was issued to vacate the place. However, the notice was ignored and the office was demolished.
