Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who briefed him on the escalating security situation in the Middle East following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iran.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Received a phone call from PM @netanyahu of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India’s concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.”

The conversation comes in the wake of heightened international anxiety after Israel launched a broad military offensive on Iranian soil, reportedly targeting nuclear and missile infrastructure and killing several senior officials and scientists.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed that he has been reaching out to world leaders, including those of India, Germany, and France. More calls with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected soon. A statement from his office noted that these leaders “showed understanding for Israel’s defense needs in the face of the Iranian threat of annihilation.”

Meanwhile, India has expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict, urging both nations to exercise restraint and avoid any further provocation. “We are closely monitoring the situation,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs.

According to global media reports, Israel has launched multiple strikes across Iran, focusing on high-value military and nuclear sites. The attacks mark one of the most serious flare-ups in the region in recent years, sparking fears of wider conflict.
