Monsoon season is finally here in India. Southwest Monsoon is the major source of rainfall in India. Southeast Monsoons take time till September and October to drop rains. But the biggest cities of India, commonly don’t receive first Monsoon rains at the same time. Or we can say that Monsoons don’t enter into the cities at the same time, generally.
After 62 years, Mumbai and Delhi have received rains at the same time. Monsoon winds have entered on 24th June, 2023 in both cities. Normally, Mumbai received Monsoon winds by second week of June. But this time, they have been delayed by Cyclone Biparjoy and El Nino conditions. Mumbai received first Monsoon rain on 24th June.

At the same time, Delhi also received their first Monsoon rain. This happened back in 1961, on 21st June. Monsoon entry into Mumbai has been delayed by 2 weeks but entered early into Delhi, 2 days early than anticipated. This condition has made this rare event possible. Well, both the cities after strong heatwaves are starting to welcome Monsoon rains.
