Surprisingly, Yash Raj Films (YRF) has reportedly signed an exclusive agreement to reserve all IMAX screens in India for their upcoming film War 2. There are currently over 30 IMAX screens across the country, and all of them will now be dedicated to War 2 for two full weeks.
This decision means that not a single IMAX screen will be available for Coolie, another big film releasing on 14 August 2025, the same day as War 2. Coolie stars Saravanan Sivakumar (Suriya) in the lead role and is also a highly awaited release.
The news from War 2 team, has led to disappointment among fans of Coolie, who were hoping to watch the film in IMAX format. IMAX screens offer a larger-than-life movie experience with better visuals and sound, and are in high demand for big-budget films.
War 2 is part of the YRF Spy Universe and stars Hrithik Roshan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. (NTR Jr). The film is expected to be a massive box office success, which may be the reason behind YRF’s aggressive distribution strategy.
While such exclusive agreements are not new in the film industry, booking all IMAX screens for one film is unusual and has sparked debate among cinema lovers. Many believe that both films should have had fair access to premium screens to reach a wider audience.
