Bollywood actor and producer John Abraham has come under sharp criticism from director Vivek Agnihotri after his recent remarks about certain films. The clash began when John said in an interview that he does not act in films that aim to influence people politically.

John explained that he had not watched The Kashmir Files or Chhava, but pointed out that audiences had already made those films successful. He added that he avoids films that increase political tension or create division and would continue to stay away from such projects.

These comments did not sit well with director Vivek Agnihotri, who strongly defended his work in an interview. He said John is neither a historian, nor a thinker, writer or intellectual, and advised him not to criticise films without proper knowledge. “If historians comment on my films, I will listen and try to understand. But I will not take criticism from people like John Abraham seriously,” Agnihotri said.

The director also questioned the actor’s stance, noting that John had acted in patriotic films like Satyameva Jayate. He argued that it was ironic for him to dismiss politically sensitive stories while having starred in films centred on national issues.

Agnihotri further criticised John’s public image, saying the actor is best known for riding motorbikes, building muscles and promoting fitness, rather than for academic or intellectual views. He suggested John should continue focusing on those areas instead of passing remarks on films he has not even watched.

The heated exchange has sparked discussion in the film industry and among fans. While some support John’s choice to stay away from politically charged films, others believe Agnihotri is right to defend the intent behind his storytelling.

The debate highlights the growing divide in Bollywood over films dealing with political and historical subjects, an issue that continues to stir strong opinions both within the industry and among audiences.
