Producer Dil Raju has taken a bold decision for his upcoming film Thammudu, starring Nithiin and directed by Sriram Venu. Instead of toning down violent scenes for a broader audience rating, the team chose to keep the full action experience and accept an ‘A’ certificate from the censor board.
According to Dil Raju, the censor board suggested removing two highly violent fight sequences to make the film suitable for a U/A rating. But the filmmakers felt that doing so would weaken the impact of the film. “We made Thammudu for the theatrical experience,” said Raju.
“Cutting those scenes would take away the intensity. We’d rather get an ‘A’ certificate than compromise on the content.”
The film unfolds mostly in a single day, after the first 20 minutes, and features five to six major action episodes. With 80% of the film set in a forest, Thammudu promises rich visuals and powerful sound design aimed at creating an immersive big-screen experience.
This choice shows the team’s confidence in their vision. While most commercial films aim for a family-friendly rating to maximise ticket sales, Thammudu is going against the grain. The team believes that those who come to the theatre will appreciate the raw, emotional, and action-packed story.
Raju emphasised that while Sankranthiki Vachham was a family entertainer, Thammudu is a different kind of film, made to satisfy action lovers. The decision to retain intense scenes could limit the family audience — but it might also win the hearts of viewers craving bold storytelling.
Thammudu releases in cinemas worldwide on 4 July.
