Tollywood is facing a growing problem with film release dates, which also affected the upcoming film, Paradha. Many films announce a release date first but then face delays due to unfinished shooting or lack of theatres. While big-budget films manage without much trouble, small and mid-range films are struggling more and more because of these issues.
One such film is Paradha, a socio-drama starring Anupama Parameswaran and directed by Praveen Kandregula. The film, which is finally set to release on 22 August, faced months of delay. At the recent launch of the film’s theme song, the team spoke about the tough journey. They said it took them six months to get a proper release date. Every time they planned promotions, a bigger film would take over the theatres, forcing them to delay again and again.
Anupama spoke honestly about the situation. “When it’s a woman-led film, no one comes forward. Even if it’s a good movie, it gets ignored. That’s the reality,” she said. She added that even though people call Paradha a small film, it carries a big message and has strong commercial elements.
Director Praveen shared that producer Suresh Babu had tears in his eyes after hearing the story. “That moment was very special,” he said. He praised Anupama for accepting a difficult role, where most of her performance is behind a veil, and compared Paradha to their own version of Baahubali.
Anupama said the role was challenging but worth it. “I learnt so much from this film. I finally got a chance to show what I can do as an actress,” she said.
The makers hope Paradha will spark change and open doors for more meaningful stories in Tollywood.
