Director Sriram Venu says his upcoming film Thammudu, starring Nithiin, is a family drama with deep emotional layers and a fresh perspective. The film, produced by Dil Raju and Sirish, is set to release in cinemas this Friday.
Speaking to the media ahead of the release, Venu explained that Thammudu explores the bond between a brother and sister while touching on various themes and characters. “Though the brother-sister sentiment is at the core, the film moves through several angles,” he said.
He also shared that the idea for the story came from a newspaper article, which inspired him to write the script. “When I shared the story with Dil Raju, he agreed to produce it without worrying about the budget,” he added.
Thammudu features five strong female characters alongside the male lead. Venu noted that this is a consistent feature in all his films, as he prefers to give importance to female roles. The character of Laya was originally offered to a former star heroine, who liked the role but couldn’t take it up due to personal reasons.
The film also includes archery as a key element. Nithiin trained for 15 days under a professional archery coach to prepare for the role. The inspiration for this came from several earlier ideas where Venu wanted to use archery but didn’t get the right opportunity—until now.
Actress Sapthami Gowda was cast after the team watched Kantara, believing she would be a good fit for the role. The music has been composed by Ajaneesh Loknath, who is said to have delivered a strong background score.
The censor board suggested some cuts, which the team initially resisted. However, Venu believes the story and emotional depth will connect with the censors regardless.
