Veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal is about to witness a new chapter of his family’s involvement in cinema. At a recent puja ceremony held in Kochi, Mohanlal revealed that his children are making their way into the film world — and he had plenty to say about it.

Mohanlal’s daughter, Vismaya, will be making her acting debut with the Malayalam movie Thudakkam. The project is being produced under the banner of Ashirvad Cinemas and is directed by Jude Anthony Joseph. During the event, Mohanlal spoke proudly of her entry into the industry.

He admitted that he never expected his children to follow his footsteps onscreen. “I never imagined my two children would become part of the film industry,” he said. He added that just as he himself had not anticipated becoming an actor, he did not foresee their arrival either.

Mohanlal emphasised that from a young age he saw the spark of talent in both his son, Pranav, and daughter, Vismaya. He mentioned how Pranav earned praise as a school actor and Vismaya participated in many plays, winning awards. Yet he stressed that despite their promise, success depends not only on ability — it takes dedication, hard work and the right chances.

He hopes to be a supporting force for his children’s careers, but believes it must ultimately be their own skill that wins them acclaim. “I can only serve as the fuel for their journey,” he said, growing emotional as he spoke about their inevitable entry into film.

Alongside Vismaya’s debut, Mohanlal’s son Pranav is also stepping into cinema. He will feature as the lead in Dyce Ira, a psychological mystery horror thriller directed by Rahul Sadashivan. The film is scheduled for release on 31 October in Malayalam cinemas.

For Mohanlal, this multiplication of his film legacy is both surprising and moving — a new generation that has emerged despite all odds.
