Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and rising star Vikrant Massey have both won the Best Actor award at the 71st National Film Awards, announced for films released in 2023.

The jury selected Shah Rukh Khan for his powerful performance in Jawan, while Vikrant Massey was honoured for his role in 12th Fail. The award has surprised many, especially as Jawan is seen as a typical commercial film, unlike some of the earlier roles of Shah Rukh Khan that showed more variety and depth. On social media, some users expressed mixed reactions, questioning why this award came for Jawan and not one of his earlier acclaimed films.

Despite the criticism, Shah Rukh Khan shared his happiness with fans. “I can’t express my joy in words. These are moments I will remember forever,” he said. He thanked the jury, the entire Jawan team, and director Atlee, saying the filmmaker believed from the beginning that the film deserved a National Award.

Shah Rukh also showed gratitude to his family, saying their support helped him focus fully on his acting. He added that the award brings a greater sense of responsibility and encourages him to keep working harder. He promised fans more meaningful films in the future and thanked them for their love and support over the years.

Currently, Shah Rukh is working on his upcoming film King. He is recovering from a hand injury and even recreated his iconic signature move using just one hand to celebrate his win.

Vikrant Massey, known for his subtle and strong performances, has received high praise for his role in 12th Fail, a story that inspired many. This national award is a big milestone in his career.
