Tollywood has announced many sequels recently, including Devara 2, Salaar 2, HanuMan 2, Mirai 2, Pushpa 3 and Kalki 2. However, the main question remains — when will these projects actually begin, and when will they release?
During the promotions of Devara, the makers hinted that a sequel would follow. But director Prashanth Neel shifted focus to a new project, Dragon, leaving Devara 2 uncertain. Actor NTR recently assured fans that the film will happen, but gave no clear timeline.
Similarly, after KGF and Salaar, many believed Salaar 2 would start soon. Instead, Neel moved ahead with his film with NTR, delaying the sequel.
After the massive success of HanuMan, director Prashanth Varma announced Jai HanuMan. A first look was even released, but since then there has been no update on the film’s progress.
Director Sukumar confirmed that Pushpa 3 is part of the plan, but even he is unsure when the project will start. Meanwhile, the makers of Mirai announced Mirai 2, but clarified that it will not go on floors immediately. Similarly, Kalki 2 has been mentioned, but director Nag Ashwin has not given any details about when production will begin.
In contrast, the team of Akhanda 2 stands out. Though director Boyapati Srinu did not announce a sequel during the release of Akhanda, the success of the first film inspired him to write a new story. After a gap, work began, and the film moved swiftly into production. Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati completed it without delays, proving their ability to deliver on time.
While many Tollywood sequels are still in confusion, the smooth progress of Akhanda 2 has made Balakrishna and Boyapati a reliable duo in the industry.
