Actress Sapthami Gowda, who rose to fame with the Kannada film Kantara, is now stepping into Telugu cinema with Thammudu, starring Nithiin and directed by Sriram Venu. The film, produced by Dil Raju and Shirish, is set for worldwide release on 4th July.
Speaking to the media ahead of the release, Sapthami shared her experience of working on Thammudu. “After Kantara, I got a call from director Sriram Venu. I travelled to Hyderabad for a look test, and once that was cleared, I was given the script. The character of Ratna was already well-written,” she said.
She described her role as having emotional depth, even if the screen time isn’t very long. “This is my first Telugu film. The role may not be lengthy, but it has strong impact and importance. Ratna’s love story with Nithiin’s character starts in their teenage years and matures over time,” Sapthami explained.
Set in a fictional village called Ambaragodugu, Sapthami plays a spirited girl who happens to be a fan of actor Pawan Kalyan. She revealed that the character brings humour and light moments to an otherwise serious story. “People might think Ratna looks similar to my character in Kantara, but this one is totally different in nature,” she added.
For the role, Sapthami even learnt horse riding, spending three to four hours a day practising in the hilly terrains of Araku, where much of the film was shot. Despite the challenges, she called the experience fulfilling and joyful.
Laya and Varsha Bollamma also play key roles in Thammudu, a film that blends emotion, family drama, and youthful love.
