Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death shocked the nation several years ago. His family accused his former girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, of abetting his suicide and alleged links to drugs. FIRs were filed against Rhea, and the case drew widespread media attention.
Authorities investigated multiple angles. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) looked into financial transactions from Sushant’s bank accounts, while the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) investigated alleged drug connections. Eventually, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case.
During the investigation, Rhea Chakraborty and her brother were arrested, causing turmoil in her family. The agencies thoroughly examined the allegations. After months of investigation, the CBI declared Rhea innocent, stating she had no role in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
Rhea spoke publicly at the NDTV Youth 2025 Conclave during the event “Unbroken: Writing the Next Chapter.” She said she initially struggled to trust the media, as news reports often exaggerated stories. “When the CBI gave me a clean chit, I felt deep relief for my family,” she said. “I held my brother and cried. Seeing my parents, I realised our lives had changed forever. That moment left a permanent mark on us.”
She also described the emotional impact of the case. “Even though the CBI cleared me, I could not feel completely happy. My relief was mainly for my parents,” she added.
Rhea was arrested by the NCB on 8 September 2020 over allegations of supplying drugs to Sushant Singh Rajput. She spent nearly 28 days in judicial custody before being granted bail on 7 October 2020. The case significantly affected her career, but she has gradually returned to work, appearing in TV shows and films, including the Telugu movie Toonig Toonig directed by M.S. Raju.
The case, which once dominated headlines, has now concluded with official clearance for Rhea Chakraborty, bringing an end to years of legal scrutiny and public speculation.
