After several years away from Indian films, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is making a much-celebrated return with director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming big-budget action-adventure, tentatively titled SSMB29. Starring opposite Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, the film is shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious global projects.
Although many are calling this her comeback, Priyanka sees it differently. “It’s not just a return; it’s my homecoming,” she said during a recent interview while promoting her Hollywood film Heads of State. She openly shared how much she misses Indian cinema and life back in India. “I miss Hindi movies, and I miss India so much,” she added, expressing genuine excitement about filming again on home soil.
SSMB29 is no ordinary project. Backed by a staggering ₹1,000 crore budget, the film brings together some of the biggest names in the Indian industry. Apart from Mahesh Babu and Priyanka, the cast also includes Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran. There’s also speculation that R Madhavan may join the ensemble, though official confirmation is awaited.
Currently, production is underway with large-scale sets being constructed, including a detailed replica of Varanasi at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The next major schedule is set to take place in Kenya, where key outdoor scenes will be filmed in the African wilderness, adding to the film’s global scope and adventurous theme.
Sources suggest that the story may take inspiration from ancient Indian mythology while blending it with a fast-paced, globe-trotting narrative, something in the vein of Indiana Jones. With Rajamouli at the helm, expectations are sky-high following his massive success with RRR and Baahubali.
For Priyanka, who has been working steadily in the West, this project is more than just another role.
