Prabhas’ much-awaited film Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi, has been generating significant buzz among fans, especially with its unique blend of comedy and horror. Initially set for a theatrical release on 5 December 2025, the film has already faced multiple delays. Now, industry chatter suggests it may be postponed yet again—this time to join the high-profile Sankranti 2026 race.
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad recently addressed the rumours, stating that Raja Saab would release “when the audience wants it.” While fans have been urging for a Sankranti release, he clarified that no final decision had been made. However, the tight post-production timeline for the December date—requiring all work to be wrapped up by late November—has reportedly led the makers to reconsider.
Sources indicate the team is eyeing the Sankranti holiday advantage, with the new proposed release date being 9 January 2026. Adding to the excitement, Purvi Pictures is said to have acquired the Uttarandhra theatrical rights for a substantial ₹20 crore, signalling strong market expectations.
If confirmed, Raja Saab will enter a festive box office showdown alongside Mega 157, the highly anticipated Chiranjeevi–Anil Ravipudi collaboration, which has already locked its Sankranti 2026 slot. The Chiranjeevi project is currently progressing at full speed with its shoot, and the makers have been targeting the festival window from the start.
The competition doesn’t stop there. Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju—now in the final leg of production—is also aiming for a Sankranti release, while Ravi Teja’s upcoming film with director Thirumala Kishore is racing through its schedule for the same window.
If all these films proceed as planned, the 2026 Sankranti season could see a four-way clash at the Telugu box office, with the possibility of further additions or last-minute withdrawals keeping trade circles and fans guessing.
One thing is certain: if Raja Saab shifts to January, it will turn the festival into one of the most intense cinematic battles in recent memory.
