Oh My God or OMG has released in 2012 and became a surprise blockbuster. Now, the movie got a sequel as OMG 2 and it released on 11th August 2023. Akshay Kumar playing the role of God has been the true connection between them. Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam have been cast in the sequel. OMG 2 has great casting and a very important subject matter and purpose. Let’s discuss about how OMG 2 works.
OMG 2 Plot:
OMG 2 deals with Kanti Sharan Mudgal(Pankaj Tripathi) having to deal with his son being bullied at school. His son belives that mastrubating will lead to growth his male sex organ. And his friends’ teasing him effects so much that he does it everywhere, even in school. He even buys enlargement drugs. Bullies make a video of it and force management to rustigate him. Kanti tries to leave town with family as the video spreads all-over the neighborhood.
Shiv Das(Akshay Kumar) starts to help and tells him to file a court case against school and medical drug sellers. When he has to face a cut throat lawyer Kamini Maheshwari(Yami Gautam), daughter-in-law, of school owner Atal Nath Maheshwari(Arun Govil), he gathers courage and help from Shiv Das. Who wins in the end? How Kanti explains sex education necessity at school and at home? Watch the movie OMG 2 for answers.
OMG 2 Analysis:
OMG 2 gets it right in casting Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam for the subject. As lawyer who has negative shades Yami Gautam is great. But the makers doesn’t try to make her look as negative as Amrish Puri in Damini or Boman Irani in Jolly LLB. She tries to make the case with conservative beliefs while Kanti becomes more progressive. The performances make this court room drama highly intriguing. Also, OMG 2 gets it right in using Akshay Kumar’s cameo. It doesn’t try sell it as his movie all-through. The movie stays true to the subject in hand and Pankaj Tripathi performance carries the movie on his shoulders. OMG 2 is a movie that will definitely start some kind of discussion about Sex education in schools.
The movie has good writing from Amit Rai. He does a good job in directing it as well. OMG 2 suffers with slight underplay and one-sided discussion at places. It feels like the makers did not want to go too deep into the debate from the other side. The conversations are completely mature and direct as well at places. Unlike OMG, it doesn’t have the full-on debate in court room from both sides. OMG 2 stands on its own as a movie and delivers on the aspects that it wants people to discuss. BGM is minimal and effective. Cinematography and production values are good for the budget of the film. OMG 2 is a good watch for people about the subject it deals with.
