Actor Nara Rohit has sparked speculation about a political career after making striking comments during the promotion of his new film. The nephew of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that if he chooses to enter politics, “no one can stop him”.
Rohit, who is also the cousin of Nara Lokesh, comes from one of the most influential political families in the state. The Nara family has been a major force in Andhra Pradesh politics for decades, with both Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh playing key roles in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
While Rohit has so far focused on cinema, his latest remarks have created a buzz about whether he too will follow the family path. Speaking in Rajahmundry during the promotions of Sundarakanda, which is set for release on 27 August, the actor said that he respects his political background but chose films for his career. He added that if he ever decides to step into politics, he will let his fans know first.
His comments quickly spread on social media, with many of his supporters welcoming the idea. Some believe that with his family’s backing, Rohit could make a smooth transition into public life. Others note that several Tollywood stars have already entered politics successfully, and Rohit could well be the next.
For now, his attention remains on Sundarakanda, in which he stars alongside Sridevi Vijaykumar and Virti Vaghani. He has earlier appeared in films like Baanam, Solo, Prathinidhi, Rowdy Fellow, Asura and Jyo Achyutananda. Beyond acting, he also runs Aran Media Works, a production house.
On the personal front, Rohit got engaged to actress Shirish Lella, who featured in Prathinidhi 2, in October 2024 at Hyderabad’s HICC Novotel. The wedding date has not yet been confirmed.
Whether Rohit limits himself to cinema or eventually takes up politics remains to be seen. But his latest words have ensured that his political future will be closely watched in the coming years.
