Nag Ashwin secretly working on a small film amidst Kalki 2 delay

Nag Ashwin

Tollywood director Nag Ashwin has once again surprised the industry. Though he has made only a few films, he has earned a reputation on par with top names. After SS Rajamouli, it is Ashwin who has built such a strong image. With Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, he not only gained national attention but also became one of the most talked-about filmmakers in India.

Before becoming a director, Nag Ashwin worked as a screenwriter and assistant director. He assisted acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula on Leader and Life is Beautiful. His directorial debut, Yevade Subramanyam, impressed both critics and audiences. Later, Mahanati, the biopic of actress Savitri, brought him massive recognition and awards.

His recent blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD further cemented his place as a visionary director. Following its success, a sequel, Kalki 2, was officially announced. However, regular shooting is yet to begin as lead actor Prabhas is busy with multiple big projects. This delay has left Ashwin with some free time.

According to industry reports, the director is silently working on a small film during this gap. Sources suggest that the film will be in the style of Yevade Subramanyam — a sensible, emotional story rather than a big-budget spectacle. Shooting is said to be happening briskly in Chennai, with mostly fresh faces playing the lead roles.

Though official details remain under wraps, it is rumoured that once shooting is completed, Ashwin will reveal the cast and crew. Speculations also hint that the film could release next year, well before Kalki 2 begins its full production.

For now, fans and cine lovers are eagerly waiting to see whether this buzz turns out to be true. If so, Ashwin may deliver another surprise package, proving that even without star power, strong storytelling can make a lasting impact.
