Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tollywood star Jr NTR have emerged as the two most talked-about public figures on Twitter in India for August. The social media platform released its monthly list, which is now going viral online.
Based on posts from Indian users between 1 and 31 August, Modi secured the first place, while Jr NTR claimed the second spot, surprising many fans. The actor, who was in third place in July, rose higher this time, a result that has delighted his followers.
The third position went to Kollywood star and political leader Vijay Thalapathy. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan followed in fourth place, while young cricketer Shubman Gill was fifth. Rahul Gandhi, Virat Kohli, Mahesh Babu, MS Dhoni, and Rajinikanth completed the top ten.
Jr NTR’s rise is being linked to his recent projects. After the global success of RRR, he scored another hit with Devara, which entered the ₹600-crore club. He also announced Dragon with director Prashanth Neel and made his Bollywood debut with War 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan, released on 14 August. These milestones have kept him in constant discussion across the country.
Fans and social media users say it is remarkable that Jr NTR ranked just after the Prime Minister, showing the growing influence of South Indian cinema nationwide.
