Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, one of Tamil cinema’s top filmmakers, is excited about the release of his upcoming film Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth. With the film set to hit screens on 14 August, promotions are in full swing, and Lokesh has been opening up about the movie in various interviews.

Coolie is the first film of Lokesh Kanagaraj with Rajinikanth, and he revealed that he spent almost two years planning the interval scene alone. He called it a “very special moment” and said he’s eager to see how audiences respond to that high point when the film releases.

Reflecting on the shoot, Lokesh said it was filled with great memories. He shared a heartwarming story — after watching Shruti Haasan’s performance in one scene, Rajinikanth quietly observed it, and the next day, surprised Shruti by sending her sweets as a token of appreciation. The veteran actor was also impressed by Soubin Shahir’s performance, Lokesh added.

While fans eagerly await Coolie, many are also asking about the long-promised Kaithi 2. Lokesh confirmed that he will begin working on it after Coolie releases. He plans to connect characters from Vikram and Leo in the new film. However, he has only written 35 pages of the script so far, so it may take time to go on floors.

In another reveal, Lokesh mentioned that he’s developing a web series based on Agent Tina, a popular character from Vikram. A different director will handle that project.

Lokesh also explained why he turned down a villain role in Sudha Kongara’s film Parashakti starring Sivakarthikeyan. Although he liked the story, he chose to focus on finishing Coolie instead. However, he confirmed he will soon work with director Arun Matheswaran on a new film.

With Coolie days away from release, fans are excited to see how Lokesh’s collaboration with Rajinikanth unfolds on the big screen.
