As the release of the Telugu film Kannappa approaches, the team behind the project has released a firm public message cautioning against online abuse and deliberate negativity targeting the film or its cast.
The mythological fantasy, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, will arrive in cinemas on 27 June. Inspired by the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva, the film promises a mix of devotion, drama, and larger-than-life storytelling.
However, just days before its theatrical debut, the producers have taken to social media to address what they call “intentional and harmful” online behaviour aimed at the film. A formal notice was posted on the movie’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, reminding the public that the film has been cleared for release globally and meets all legal requirements.
The statement urged viewers to approach the film with an open mind. It requested that any feedback be shared responsibly and only after watching the film — rather than engaging in biased or hostile remarks online. The makers added that while freedom of expression is respected, targeted attacks on creative works are not protected under the law.
The notice also highlighted a ruling by the Delhi High Court, which grants legal protection to the image and identity of key actors Vishnu Manchu and Dr Mohan Babu. Any misuse of their likeness or spreading false content about them could face legal consequences under Indian law.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa features a grand ensemble cast. In addition to Vishnu Manchu, the film stars Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Madhoo. It also includes major guest appearances from Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal in divine roles.
With massive expectations and high-profile cameos, Kannappa is one of the most awaited mythological releases of the year. The team now hopes audiences will judge the film fairly, based on its story and presentation — and not through the lens of online misinformation.
