Kubera is a truly special film: Producers Sunil & Ram Mohan

Kubera

Kubera

The much-anticipated pan-India film Kubera, starring Dhanush, King Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, and directed by Sekhar Kammula, is all set for a grand global release on June 20 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Producers Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao shared exciting details about the film at a recent press meet.

The film has come out brilliantly, they said. The emotional depth in Kubera will connect with everyone. It offers a truly different cinematic experience.

How did Kubera come together?

After Love Story, Sekhar Kammula narrated this idea to us and suggested that Dhanush would be perfect for the lead role. When Dhanush heard the narration, he signed on within 20 minutes. That’s how the project began.

They added, “Dhanush is already a pan-India star with films in Hindi.” Nagarjuna has been part of Hindi films for a long time, and Rashmika is a nationally recognized actress. The story naturally called for a strong cast, and all three supported the film wholeheartedly.

Is it a dubbed film?

Kubera is a straight Telugu and Tamil film, dubbed in Hindi for its wider release. The first copy is already ready, and the movie has shaped up wonderfully.

Sekhar Kammula’s biggest star-studded film yet

This is the first time Sekhar garu is working with such a massive star cast. His earlier film Leader still feels fresh every time we watch it. With Kubera, audiences will get a completely new experience.

Shooting in real slums, garbage yards, and streets of Mumbai came with its own challenges, but it brought authenticity. We never compromised on budget where content demanded it.

What’s the core conflict in Kubera?

It’s a powerful contrast: the richest man in the world versus the poorest man in the streets. That’s the film’s conflict.

What excited you most about the story?

Sekhar garu always creates emotional, feel-good films that touch the audience. Kubera is no different—the emotions in this story will truly resonate.

Tell us about the music by DSP

Devi Sri Prasad has delivered a fresh and dynamic soundtrack. His background score is also outstanding. Dhanush even sang two songs. That was a decision made collaboratively by the director and DSP.

Songs like Poi Ra Mama, Trance of Kubera, and PP Dum Dum have already become chartbusters, trending across platforms.

What is Nagarjuna’s role?

We’ve always wanted to work with Nagarjuna sir. Sekhar garu wrote the character with only him in mind, and once he heard the story, he immediately came on board. He’s delivered a performance that we can’t imagine anyone else doing.

Any update on the Tamil distribution?

We’ve sold the Tamil rights to a distributor named Rahul. We aren’t releasing it ourselves in Tamil.

On involving family in production

Yes, I’d love for my daughter Jaanvi to enter film production. She’s very passionate and actively involved already. Even my brother’s son is interested in the production side.

What are your upcoming projects?

We’re planning to do another film with Sekhar Kammula garu. The hero hasn’t been finalized yet, but it’s definitely in the works.
