Gadar is the biggest blockbuster in 2001 and it made masses love it like no other film. It made huge business even with Lagaan having a dream run at the other end. A sequel is coming after 22 years as Gadar 2 on 11th August 2023. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are back in their popular roles in the film. Gadar 2 Plot:
Gadar told the love story of Tara Singh(Sunny Deol) and Sakeena(Ameesha Patel) in the backdrop of 1947 riots. Now, in Gadar 2, the movie took the backdrop of 1971 Crush India campaign. During India-Pakistan war in 1971, there have been campaigns about Pakistanis purposefully troubling Indians. The hate has been at its highest. Tara Singh is expected to have gone missing near the border. His son Jeete(Utkarsh Sharma) tries to enter Pakistan to save him. But Jeete gets captured by General Hamid Iqbal(Manish Wadhwa). Gadar 2 Analysis:
The movie Gadar has never been known for being sensible. It is a love story that has mass action elements blended into. Sunny Deol has been one of the biggest action heroes ever in 90’s. Gadar just cemented his position against Khan’s ruling the roost. But then Sunny Deol fell into an abyss of failures and lost his market. Gadar 2 is his chance to make a big comeback into commercial action genre with a popular film. Tara Singh and his love story has been popular because of the music and the album. People have gone mad watching the original in theatres. Even after 22 years, the same has brought in people to theatres. But Gadar 2 is nowhere close to the original.
Anil Sharma is a kind of director who doesn’t care about logics and is a loud action filmmaker. Gadar 2 tries to bring back nostalgia factor in the films. The loud dialogues are back, the stunts are back and also the huge soundtrack is also back as remixes. Gadar 2 works when Sunny Deol takes the centrestage. Also his chemistry with Ameesha Patel is still visible. Utkarsh Sharma and Manish Wadhwa don’t really impress us. Gadar 2 works only if you love the original and are okay with the nostalgia factor overpowering the script.
