Farhan Akhtar confirmed him directing Don 3. He has been talking about bringing Don 3 from 2014. But Farhan Akhtar took time to write and develop his script for the film. Shah Rukh Khan did not like the concept and he has decided to not come back as Don. After careful consideration and deliberation, Farhan Akhtar has decided to go with another actor for Don 3. Most probably, Ranveer Singh will be playing the role of Don in the coming film.
Farhan Akhtar remembered his love for Original 1978 movie, Don. Later, he thanked Shah Rukh Khan for being Don and giving wings to his imagination. Farhan Akhtar wrote, “In 1978, a character created by Salim-Javed and portrayed by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan with effortless elan, captured the imagination of theatregoers across the country. That enigmatic character was Don. In 2006, Don was reimagined and brought to life by Shah Rukh Khan in his own irresistibly charming way. From Don’s sardonic wit to his cool but menacing fury, Shah Rukh embodied his persona. As writer & director, I had a great time creating not one but two, Don films with Shah Rukh and both experiences remain very close to my heart.”

Farhan Akhtar continued to say, “The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility. I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. A new era of Don begins in 2025. Watch this space.” Shah Rukh Khan fans did not like this development and have been trending on X aka Twitter, stating “No SRK No Don”. They have been abusing Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani for this development too. The makers have decided and hopefully, fans will also move on!
