Double Ismart Movie Rating; 2/5
Puri Jagannadh has earned massive fanism and craze for his characters. In recent years, he hasn’t been able to create similar impact with his characters. But Ismart Shankar proved that he can still pull off the magic. Now, he is back with sequel, Double Ismart with Ram Pothineni, again reprising the character of Ustaad Ismart Shankar. Let’s now discuss about the detail in this review.
Plot:
Ismart Shankar(Ram Pothineni) starts to track down an International Mafia Don Big Bull(Sanjay Dutt). He meets a Delhi based girl Jannat(Kavya Thapar) and falls immediately in love. But she rejects him and he gets to know that she works as a Hitman for Big Bull. On the other hand, Big Bull gets diagnosed with Brain Tumor and he starts experimenting for memory transfer to stay alive forever.
He gets to know about Ismart Shankar, who already survived such process. Ismart Shankar rejects this deal but Big Bull is successful in transferring memories. What happens next? Watch Double Ismart to know more.
Analysis:
Ram Pothineni pulled off yet another good and highly commendable performance in a bad film. He is able to imitate Sanjay Dutt, when required in a very decent manner. He never oversold the old city Hyderabadi accent and looked comfortable in switching to swaggy English speaking Don, too. But he could not carry like in Ismart Shankar, here.
In the first one or the orginal, Puri Jagannadh, the maverick writer-director let Ismart Shankar’s character dictate terms. Hence, Ram’s performance became the key cog to connect with the audiences. Here, Puri tried to repeat same things that worked in the first film, in the similar pattern. But the novelty factor of the first one is replaced by familiarity factor. So, the scenes feel repetitive.
Even the character of Kavya Thapar in the film is so confusing and irrelevant that story feels stagnant post interval. The cat and mouse game between Ram and Sanjay Dutt did not really work either. While Sanjay Dutt sleep walked throughout the film, even others tried to act and overact. With silly scenes, Double Ismart progressively grows on our nerves in the second hour.
On top of it all, supposedly “comedy” track with AIi as Boku, is the worst part of the movie. Puri Jagganadh just went over-the-top with everything and had he tried to concentrate on writing, this movie would have been at the least plausible. Well, continuing a crowd favorite character, Double Ismart did not really live upto the expectations.
Positives:
Ram Pothineni’s dedication and performance
Mani Sharma BGM
Negatives:
Terrible Comedy track
Following Ismart Shankar Template
Highly disengaging Screenplay
Silly Scenes
Lack of any impact
Double Ismart Movie Bottom-line: Mind-numbingly Dumb
